How Idea was Launched: Steve founded the Clwyd-based construction group, Redrow, in 1974. He began his business by taking on small civil engineering projects in the North of England.

Then, in the 1980's, he changed direction and moved Redrow into house building. In 1994, Steve floated the company. He now lives in Jersey.

Earnings: In the year to June 1998, profits for the construction group, Redrow, rose 34% to £48.2million.
